Metabolic syndrome is a combination of medical disorders that increase the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. It affects one in five people, and increases with age. Some studies estimate the prevalence in the USA to be up to 25% of the population. (from Wikipedia)

Protect your health! Take the test below to determine if you may have Metabolic Syndrome.

Answer the following questions to determine the existence of Metabolic Syndrome.

1)Yes No Elevated Waist Circumference
Measured at your belly button, is your waist greater than 35 inches for women or 40 inches for men? If you are genetically at greater risk of diabetes, the circumference limit is 31 inches for women and 37 inches for men.
2)Yes No Elevated triglycerides¹
Are your triglycerides 150 milligrams per deciliter or higher, or have you received treatment for high triglycerides?
3)Yes No Reduced HDL¹
Is your HDL less than 40 mg/dL in men or less than 50 mg/dL in women or are you receiving treatment for low HDL?
4)Yes No Elevated Blood Pressure
Is your blood pressure higher than 130 millimeters of mercury systolic - the top number? Is diastolic - the bottom number - 85 or higher? Are you receiving treatment for high blood pressure? Indicate yes if you answered yes to any of these.
5)Yes No Elevated Fasting Blood Sugar or Blood Glucose¹
Is your blood sugar 100 mg/dL or higher, or are you receiving treatment for high blood sugar?
¹ The above labs values can be obtained from simple blood test that can be ordered by your primary care practitioner.
